Lessons from the Cat

"Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. ... In [the Lord's] hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." ~Job 12:7-8, 10

12. The larger the terrorist, the safer the little hidey hole.

11. Be careful where you choose to rest. This is particularly important if you have an aversion to something ... like water.

10. There's a big ol' world out there just waiting to be explored.

9. If you don’t know where in the world you’re going, just take a nap … I mean, map.

8. Just because the tail continues to twitch doesn’t mean there’s a lizard attached.

7. Sleep lightly when in the vicinity of small humans.

6. Fenced in back yard = quiet + safe = boring.
Open front yard = zooming cars + carousing + cat fights = exciting.
Figuring out a way to get from one to the other = priceless.

5. If whining doesn’t work, try scratching the furniture.

4. Poop left on top of the car is insufficient to dissuade humans from banishing you to the garage at night.

3. Black clothing makes the coziest nap mat, especially if someone is planning to wear it today.

2. Birds released in the house will be confiscated.

1. It’s a good idea to know what you’re getting into when you demand your way. Otherwise, you must be prepared to deal with uncomfortable circumstances.

  1. Hi Sharon,
We don't know a Harriet Clardy, but you're right, it never hurts to ask.

We are really enjoying SWBTS. We are reminded everyday of how much God loves us through the amazingly caring people there. It has been such a blessing to me to share in my husband's seminary experience. Thanks for the word of encouragement.

  2. Hilarious! My personal favorite - #10. I like cats well enough, unfortunately we have 2 major cat allergy people who live here. So, we settled for the bunny.

  3. It's perfectly fine if you read our blog :) I know you said ya'll were still in the area, but i noticed your clock was set to Papua New Guinea time. Have you been assigned there as missionaries?

  4. Oh yes, Genny! Isn't that picture just priceless!? And that was NOT posed. Hubby just happened to catch it at the perfect moment. My personal favorites are "Birds released in the house will be confiscated." and the one about poop. (Of course, that just serves to betray my twisted sense of humor, I guess! I really veered from the tone of the blog (so far, anyway) with this one! ha ha!)

  5. #10 and #3 are my faves. How do the animals know to lay on only the material on which their fur will show up the best? They are all conspiring against us...I am convinced.

You could put #10 on a Hallmark card.

Your family rocks and I LOVED this post.

  6. Thanks, A! I was just saying to my hubby that I needed to find a way to bridge the gap between the serious posts I have posted so far and the more typical type of writing I lean toward which is lighter and contains some humor, while at the same time delivering a message (at least most of the time! har har!) I think the cat post fit the bill! =) I will surely have some other serious posts, but probably not the majority from this point on. =)

  8. Those are great pictures! What a pretty cat! For some reason reading about your cat reminded me of the pets you had when we were kids. Sandy? And I remember the guinea pig you had, what was her name? I remember that she climbed up my pants leg once! Eek!

  9. Yep, you're right, Jen. Sandy - great dog. The guinea pig was named Peek-a-boo, and I remember the incident very well! haha!! I can say, Smudge (our cat) has never climbed up any of our legs. You are free to visit any time. :-)
